The Vaping Epidemic (Grades 9-12 & Adult)
While tobacco use has declined, vaping has become a major health concern among teens and young adults. Despite recent changes to PA law regarding vaping products, many young people continue to use nicotine delivery devices. From 2017 to 2018, there was a 48% increase in the use of e-cigs among middle school youth, and a 78% increase among high school students. Participants in this program will learn about the science behind treating addiction as a brain disease; why the adolescent brain is more susceptible to the effects of drugs like nicotine; dangers associated with vaping THC; and how to access local resources.
