Anger Management

Anger is an emotion with which most people are familiar. What many may not realize is that anger is often used as a way to avoid dealing with uncomfortable feelings, such as fear or sadness. CHC’s Anger Management program helps participants recognize and understand underlying reasons for their anger, as well as identify triggers and warning signs. Additionally, attendees learn the role of anger in alcohol and drug addiction and practical, peaceful techniques for controlling reactions to challenges and managing stress.

STEP: Systematic Training for Effective Parenting

This program is an interactive practical approach to parenting and handling challenging behaviors. The program provides skills training for parents of children from 6 through 12 years of age. Using the STEP multimedia kit our staff teaches lessons to parents on how to understand child behavior and misbehavior, practice positive listening, give encouragement (rather than praise), explore alternative parenting behaviors and express ideas and feelings, develop their child's responsibilities, apply natural and logical consequences, convene family meetings, and develop their child's confidence. Parents engage in role-plays, exercises, discussions of hypothetical parenting situations, and the sharing of personal experiences.
