Alternative to Suspension Program (ATS)
The program, developed by the American Lung Association, is offered as an option to students who face suspension for violation of school tobacco use policy. The program addresses student tobacco use, addiction, healthy alternatives to smoking and making the change to nonsmoking. For students who choose the Alternative to Suspension program, attendance is mandatory. Prior to implementing the program facilitators and administrators shall determine the consequences for unexcused absences and tardiness.
