As Director of Hope Center, a safe haven for individuals suffering from SUD, he encourages and inspires others to live a life of recovery. Brian will share his own story, discuss treatment options and explain how Hope Center directly impacts the community.

Rhonda’s family was forever changed by her son Ben’s struggle with substance use disorder and subsequent overdose death. Today, as a Certified Family Recovery Specialist, and the force behind Speak Up for Ben, Inc. and the Oasis Community Center, she is dedicated to helping families affected by addiction. Rhonda will share her family’s story, Speak Up for Ben’s mission, and discuss how stigma around SUD affects families.

Why Youth Recovery Programs are Essential

Beatriz S. Messina, LSW, MSW, Assistant Professor/Counselor, NCC Collegiate Recovery Program Director

Beatriz S. Messina is a Licensed Social Worker and Assistant Professor at Northampton Community College. In 2015, she started NCC’s Collegiate Recovery Program, which provides support to students in recovery at the college. Beatriz will explain the role of Collegiate Recovery Programs and why they work, discuss concerns around reaching underrepresented populations in the recovery community, and address the issue of stigma as a barrier to treatment.
