Topic: SAP Professionals and the Law Series: A Closer Look at Child Find Obligations and Student Confidentiality Responsibilities

In this session, Atty. Gilsbach will provide essential information for school assistance professionals regarding their legal obligations in two essential areas: child find under the IDEA and Section 504 and student confidentiality and student data privacy. In this webinar, Atty. Gilsbach will discuss how SAP teams and individuals can dramatically reduce school liability and improve the process for providing legally-defensible accommodations for students with disabilities. She will also discuss the responsibilities of student assistance professionals with regards to student confidentiality and data privacy under FERPA, HIPAA, and other laws. You won't want to miss this training providing crucial information that will help SAP teams and personnel understand and comply with applicable federal and state laws.

Atty. Gilsbach is the Executive Director of EdLaw Interactive (edlawinteractive.com), which provides school law training and resources for educators and school leaders. Atty. Gilsbach is a highly-respected attorney, speaker, and author who has provided legal training and counsel to schools in the Lehigh Valley and throughout the U.S. for more than 20 years. Prior to entering private practice, she worked for 3 years at PDE's Office of Chief Counsel, and she began her career as a public high school English teacher. She collaborates with school districts, IUs, charter schools, and non-public schools throughout Pennsylvania and the U.S. to provide engaging and important information about the legal obligations and responsibilities of educators and school leaders.
